Why was the Coal Oil Point Reserve Devereux Slough North Shore Margin Restoration Project selected as an exemplary project? The Project was well developed and implemented, taking place on a high priority estuarine wetland, engaging and educating numerous and varied volunteers from the Community, with consistent and effective reporting, and thorough photographic and monitoring activities and documentation. Community members and groups engaged during the project included general community members, restoration interns from UCSB Santa Barbara City College, and Westmount College, young children from Family School, Santa Barbara City College Field Studies classes, CalPIRG, YMCA Adventure Guides, Santa Barbara High School Green Club, 7th grade low-income students attending a science camp sponsored by the UCSB Gevirtz Education Center, Cottage Hospital staff, 9- and 10-year old girls as part of a Girls, Inc. class in Environmental Earth Action, UCSB fraternities and sororities, 8th grade class of Dunn Middle School, and the list goes on.
